Vikalpani began its work by advocating for preschool children and their mothers, with a focus on child nutrition. Since then, children and youth have remained central to its activities. Vikalpani has built strong connections with schools in the Monaragala District, working closely with students, teachers, and parents to promote school home gardens, raise awareness about the impact of toxic pesticides and unhealthy food, and advocate for child rights. Vikalpani also engages in policy advocacy on the harmful effects of toxic pesticides on children, and each year it marks the Protect Our Children from Toxic Pesticides campaign. In addition, Vikalpani works actively with rural youth through a dedicated youth club that leads various initiatives, including youth-led climate solutions, promoting youth participation in agriculture, and raising youth voices in the struggle for rights.
